John Maddox, M.D.,  has been a front-line, community-facing pediatrician in the Boston area for over 20 years. Coming from a family of teachers, John is enchanted with the intersection of health and education. He has served as School Physician for Haverhill (MA) Public Schools since 2012; one of his proudest accomplishments was being part of the team of school nurses, educators, health care providers, and families navigating the Covid-19 pandemic. John is co-founder of Haverhill Promise, a chapter of the Campaign for Grade Level Reading. His medical career and civic involvement have been enhanced by his service on the board of his family’s charitable foundation, the JF Maddox Foundation, in his hometown of Hobbs, New Mexico.

John has extensive experience with maximizing school attendance for his patients and enjoys the puzzle that each child presents — requiring some blend of interventions by the family, the school and the community. The diverse populations of Haverhill and Hobbs offer complex challenges that require creative collaboration.

John holds an undergraduate history degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and an M.D. from the University of New Mexico; he is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
