Attendance messaging doesn’t stop after the first month of preschool. Too many times we’ve seen classrooms start strong and then absences start to add up as the holidays arrive and winter illnesses set in. Here are some suggestions for maintaining momentum:
Come up with a monthly theme for messaging that anticipates and prevents absences.
Ensure that messaging conveys what is covered in the classroom so families know what their child will miss if they are absent.
Plan recognition ceremonies for children and families to reinforce the importance of attendance. Be sure to recognize good and improved attendance, not just perfect attendance.
